XIXILI Aurora Rise of Dawn SS16 Fashion Show

Monday, May 30, 2016

Hi merry goers!

For a woman to feel beautiful, she not only needs to look beautiful on the outside but also on the inside. Even the type of lingerie we choose to wear will make or break our day. Home-grown Malaysian lingerie label, XIXILI recently showcased their Spring Summer 2016 collections during their annual lingerie fashion show. This year, the fashion show themed Aurora, Rise of Dawn was held at Ruyi & Lyn, Bangsar Shopping Centre and was inspired by sunrise bonfire and spiritual tribal awakening.
An amazing performance by Psycusix kicked off the fashion show with an awesome light and object manipulation performance. Not only that, the performance which was accompanied with the sounds of waves and birds mimicked by didgeridoo transported us to a world far away; signaling the rise of each dawn.
As the models strutted down the runway with the latest XIXILI Spring Summer 2016 collections, everyone's eyes were glued to the runway not only because of the gorgeous models but also the beautiful pieces from the collection.
The models which were styled by Shu Uemura and Number76 matched the theme of the fashion show to the dot with sun kissed complexion and elegant loose beach waves. Accessorized with tribal pieces, bohemian bangles, feather earrings and anklets, the collection was well carried and translated on the runway.

Timbre | The Row, KL

Friday, May 27, 2016

Timbre is no foreign name especially to those who often frequent Singapore as it is well known as a place with night entertainment, offering its customers good live music and even better drinks. For those of you who have not patronize this live music bar bistro, you no longer need to travel all the way to Singapore with Timbre @ The Row, KL. The Timbre Group is a well-established name in the Singapore F&B scene as well as a music brand synonymous with promoting homegrown music talents. You can now find them at Jalan Doraisamy to enjoy good food and drinks accompanied with live entertainment for four nights a week.
A Friday night after work turned into a sweet and pleasant dinner review at Timbre, The Row
thanks to Bok for inviting me along to try out what Timbre has to offer. Of course to my delight and surprise to meet Chris & Christine from broughtup2share as well as Ivy that night. I have been following their blogs since even before I started blogging so it was a real pleasure to get to know them in person.
The food served at Timbre definitely had a localised taste to it when we were first served with Satay Beef Fries which had crispy fries topped with stewed satay minced beef  and garnished with green onions. These fries were pretty addictive with the group of us picking at it
The Timbre Buffalo Wings (RM30) was another appetizer with a localised taste where we got deep fried battered chicken wings topped with Timbre's devil sauce and roasted peanuts. Although slightly overfried, the sauce definitely helped elevate the dish.
The Rack of Sambal Crusted Lamb Loins (RM34) had sauteed sweet peas, caramelized onions, served with coconut lemongrass emulsion and chickpeas. The sambal marinade itself was lovely although the lamb was a little too undercooked for our liking.
Enjoy two different pizza flavors with The Half & Half where we were recommended the Crispy Caramel Anchovies and the Roasted Duck; both a delight to enjoy. The Crispy Caramel Anchovies had sauteed red onions, pineapples on a sambal base, melted mozzarella cheese, topped with julienne cucumber and drizzled with aioli. The sambal and anchovies hit your tastebuds at the first bite and was sweet with a fiery kick. The other half of our pizza had roasted duck breast, sauteed shiitake mushroom with hoisin sauce, topped with mozzarella cheese and crispy popiah skin. It was definitely an interesting blend of ingredients and the roasted duck breast was enjoyable. Of course having the crispy popiah skin to pick at while dining was a plus point.
Since we were feeling a little peckish, we ordered another pizza to share which was the
Your dining experience at Timbre wouldn't be complete without watching a live performance. So chill, relax and enjoy the live band performance by local talents. Just something to take note of is you might not be able to comfortably converse with your dining partners while they are performing because the music can get a bit too loud.

Pretz n' Beanz | Bangsar

Wednesday, May 25, 2016

Hi merrygoers!

Who here loves pretzels like me? I am a serious pretzels fan especially AuntieAnne's Pretzels which I often crave. If I ever do not have appetite or do not feel like having a heavy meal, feed me with some pretzels and my appetite would be back.
Now have you heard of another cafe in town specializing in pretzels and coffee? Pretz n' Beanz is a food joint that has an assortment of pretzels and just a few weeks ago, I had a mini gathering/food review session with some friends whom I have not met up with for a long time at Pretz n' Beanz, Bangsar. This outlet is located along the same row as Antipodean so you should not have difficulties locating it but... I have to say searching for a parking at Bangsar is horrendous especially on a weekend afternoon. After going round and round in circles I finally decided to just park at Bangsar Village and walk over to Pretz n' Beanz.
The smell of freshly baked pretzels filled my nostrils as I enter the cafe which was definitely a good sign and while waiting for the rest of the gang to arrive, I had a look through their menu which definitely offered a wide variety of pretzel dishes like their Pretzel Pizza, Filled Pretzels as well as some breakfast dishes.
The interior of the cafe was nice and cozy and I especially liked the brick wall for that added touch and dimension to the room. Not only that, did you know they had some 3D art on the wall too? 3D Museums have been a craze lately so it was fun to see some here at Pretz n' Beanz.

After the whole gang arrived, it was time to order our food! There was a slight debate about how much should be order since we nearly wanted to try everything on the menu but we focused on some of the newer offerings at Pretz n' Beanz.
Of course we have to order their pretzels! So we got three different flavors which are the Poppy Seed Pretzel, Seaweed Pretzel and the Chocolate Pretzel. We also got their Passion Fruit Jam Dip which was homemade too. Texture wise, it did not really have a very chewy texture compared to Auntie Anne's but it was flavourful and the passion fruit jam was delicious! Sweet and tangy, perfect dip to go.
We also ordered their Pretzel Pizza which I was very curious to try. How well would a pretzel and a pizza combine with each other? Since there were 8 of us, we ordered the Flamkuchen Pizza and the Hot Pepper Chili Chicken Pizza. The crust was made from the same dough they used for the pretzels so it had a slightly chewy texture to it. The Flamkuchen Pizza which had pretzel dough topped with sour cream, yellow onion slices, beef brisket and mozzarella cheese. The sour cream taste was a bit too light for me to really taste it so it would definitely be better if they added more sour cream to it. The Hot Pepper Chili Chicken did not leave much of an impression to me either, probably because it did not have the fiery kick I was hoping to get.
Pretz n' Beanz also serve some All-Day-Breakfast dishes like this Royale Salmon Egg Benedict which was just soooo good! I LOVE my eggs especially if it is poached eggs. Pair that together with some perfectly smoked salmon and I am sold! The creaminess of the Benedict sauce was marvelous when eaten together and just bursting that egg and seeing the runny yolk flow out was just orgasmic. ok forgive my craziness over these eggs
We ordered the Champignon Baked Egg which eggs baked with tomatoes, mushroom and mozzarella cheese served with two original pretzel. This dish disappointed me with overbaked eggs which left the dish rather dry. It was rather difficult to eat it with the pretzels as well since I was not able to dip it into the baked eggs. But I have to say portion wise, it could feed two small eaters.
Since we were still feeling a little peckish, we decided to try one of their pasta which is the Aglio Olio Prawn Spaghetti. Now this I like because it had some heat in it and the prawns were nicely cooked, still juicy and sweet. Not too oily, the flavors were on point; making this dish a pleasure to enjoy.
Coffee dates are legit without some drinks so we ordered the Matcha Latte, Caramel Macchiato and Vanilla Latte which were enjoyable.

Overall it was a great hangout session with Bowie, Sin Yee, Rebecca, Adeline and Sharon which unfortunately I had to rush off. Would be great to be able to stay longer and chit chat but we will be having a nice getaway soon so I'm sure more catching up will proceed! I've listed their blogs that at my sidebar so check them out too.

The Grind Burger Bar | U.S Fries & Burgers Fiesta

Wednesday, May 18, 2016

Hi merrygoers!

It's time to PAR-TAY! with some burgers and fries especially in conjunction of the U.S Fries & Burger Fiesta which is on-going until the end of May 2016. With 19 different burger joints and cafes in the Klang Valley participating in this fiesta, it was definitely time for me to stop by one of the participating outlet and check out what they have to offer!

The Grind Burger Bar located at SS17 is my chosen burger joint to try TWO of their burgers and fries which is The Grind House Burger and the JD Burger. You can choose either the BEEF or PORK or even a mixture of BEEF & PORK for your patties.
The Grind House Burger (Pork RM22 | Beef RM24) which is one of the signature burger feature freshly ground, hand-pressed Aussie beef patty topped with egg, bacon, caramelized onions and natural cheddar cheese sandwiched between house-made brioche with their secret The Grind "Dracula Sauce". The beef comes from the chuck portion and is has a nice balance of both lean and fat meat. I love how the juiciness and sweetness of the meat is not overpowered by the other ingredients but was instead enhanced especially with the caramelized onions. Having an egg in the burger would have done wonders if it was still runny but unfortunately my egg for that day was well done so no runny yolk.
The other burger promoted through the U.S Fries & Burger Fiesta is the JD Burger (Pork RM23 | Beef RM25) with a choice of either BEEF or PORK patty, Jack Daniels sauce, bacon and cheddar. Do not underestimate this burger compared to The Grind House burger because the Jack Daniels sauce packs a punch on its own! Albeit too strong for my liking at the first bite, the following mouthfuls got me hooked on. A whole bottle of Jack Daniels was used in preparation of the sauce but no worries because the alcohol content has been cooked off so you still get the strong Jack Daniels taste without the alcohol content.
But of course, what is a good burger if it is not accompanied by good fries? In this case, we have U.S Potato Fries with Skin which was seriously so addictive! It had the right thickness with a crispy exterior and still fluffy inside! I am more of a thick cut fries fan so I am definitely very satisfied with the fries served at The Grind Burger Bar. They only serve the best US Potato fries so no compromising on the taste and quality.

What are you waiting for? Head on down to The Grind Burger Bar and taste for yourself these two yummilicious burgers with amazing fries to pair with! Beware that the portion is really generous so you might want to drag along a friend to share too!
