Mother's Day Celebration | Sky Avenue, Genting Highlands

Hi loves,

I know this post is really late but I still want to wish mothers everywhere, happy mothers day. Honestly, to parents everywhere, happy parents day. My mum is the core of my family and without her, I wouldn't be where I am or who I am today.

Thanks to Resorts World Genting, this year I was able to give her a treat by bringing her up to Sky Avenue for a Mothers Day celebration. It has been ages since she last went up to Genting and with the new Sky Avenue done up wonderfully, this was a great opportunity to give her a treat plus the weather was seriously so hot lately.

The day started with a trip up to Genting Highlands where we stopped at the new Cable Car station. We had the chance to ride on the new Glass Floor Cable Car where you could now enjoy the view up to the peak with the glass floor. Great for photographing as well as having a new look at how high up you were.

For those of you who have yet to visit Sky Avenue, you definitely should! Love how they did up the place with the LED screens, really giving it an uplift.

As we reached the peak, we really enjoyed the cool breeze that welcomed us before heading over for our Mother's Day Lunch Celebration at Tampopo Delicieux.

Located at Sky Avenue, Tampopo is actually a well established eatery from Singapore which was voted as one of the best ramen in Singapore. Tampopo literally means Dandelion in Japanese and they beleive in using the best quality ingredients, spreading and sharing the culture of Japan and its food to their customer. They offer Japanese cuisine in a contemporary way which is perfect for family dining with their extensive selection of menu. We had a huge spread from their Ramen, appetizers and ending with desserts.

We started off with some appetizers like Jelly Fish Salad (RM19) and Edamame (RM9.90) just to prep our tummy before the mains arrive.

We were then welcomed with a bowl of their top rated ramen; Chicken Ramen "Miso" (RM35.20) and Chicken Ramen "Spicy Miso" (RM35.20). This bowl of ramen comes with chicken char siu, ajitsuke tamago, bamboo sprouts and of course their springy ramen noodles. Both the ramen had an excellent broth although it was not the usual pork broth, but it was sweet and creamy pairing well with the rest of the ingredients. The chicken char siu could pull of as a pork char siu as it was tender and flavourful. The star has got to be their springy noodles which had an excellent bite and texture, not too soft and carrying a bounce in each bite.

Although their ramen was slurp-worthy, I find myself picking more on the Tonkatsu (Chicken Katsu Set | RM34.20; ala carte RM25). This particular tonkatsu is the child product of Tampopo founder, Mr Takagi who was nicknamed "Father of Tonkatsu" as he was the mastermind who brought tonkatsu out of Japan to Singapore back in 1993. The Tonkatsu had a crispy, light and fluffy crust using Panko imported from Hokkaido. It was the perfect combination of crispy panko crust with the tender and succulent chicken. Although this wasn't the regular pork tonkatsu, but it was definitely a healthier and pork-free option.

The Tempura Moriawase (RM34)  was a delightful crunch to enjoy. Crispy, not overly fried and the batter not too thick, this is one of the recommended Tempura Moriawase. You can enjoy freshly crushed sesame seeds to pair with your tonkatsu and tempura platter. Just crush the seeds and add the sauce into it to dip your tonkatsu.

Before ending our meal, we were treated to three of their top dessert options; Fruit Roll (RM15), Cream Puff (RM11.90) and Scope Cake (RM16.90). Highly recommended is the Cream Puff because seriously this has got to be one of the best cream puff I have eaten. The exterior was cripsy which breaks as you bite into it and the cream filling was seriously so creamy and good. Not too rich but it had a subtle fragrance to it which made it such a pleasure to enjoy.

Our day trip did not end there as mothers were celebrated with a flash mob before we witness Resort World Genting giving out some prizes and hampers to the single mothers who were invited to celebrate Mother's Day on that day too. So sweet and meaningful for them to be able to enjoy this special day as well.

Before heading back to KL, we were treated to enjoying the many other kiosk tenants at Sky Avenue. You're definitely spoilt for choice with the kiosks like Gindaco, Tokyo Secret, Gong Cha, Inside Scoop, Just Heavenly and Madame Waffle. Inside Scoop was lovely with their creamy delicious ice cream topped on freshly baked waffles. Yes you can now enjoy all your favourite desserts and snacks up at Sky Avenue too!

It was definitely an amazing Mother's Day celebration and mummy sure had a fun time with all the good food and also the cool weather to take her mind off work and stress. It has been a while having a mother-daughter bonding time with her so it was really nice to be able to spend time with her. She may not be one of the most vocal person to voice out how she feels but I know that she always has my best interest at heart. So once again, Happy Mother's Day and Parents Day to all you Mum and Dads out there. For those of you thinking where to bring your Dad this Father's Day, head on up to Sky Avenue, Genting Highlands and have a nice family bonding time.

Til next time,

xoxo
Miriam
