AirAsia Counter Check-In Fee To Increase To RM100 Effective March 2022

AirAsia will be revising the counter check-in fee according to the newly updated FAQ document on its website.

Effective 1 March 2022 onwards, customers who perform flight check-in at physical counters throughout Malaysia will be charged RM100 instead of RM20 or RM30. This is applicable for domestic and international flights, the new flat-rate fee applies to all passengers regardless of their age except for infants aged 24 months and below as they do not occupy a seat by themselves.

In addition to that, the fee would be waived for a select group of customers or during certain situations as listed below:

  • Guests with reduced mobility
  • Guests travelling with an infant (under 24 months of age)
  • Young guests travelling alone (12 to 16 years old)
  • Staff travel: Standby ID90/ID90X
  • Guests affected by schedule changes and flight cancellations
  • No airport check-in kiosks are available or all check-in kiosks are unserviceable
  • Guests who are unable to complete web, mobile or kiosk check-in due to system error
  • Guests who purchase a seat upgrade or other additional paid services at the check-in counter
  • airasia platinum and airasia black members
  • Premium Flex (except for AirAsia India) and Flatbed guests
  • Corporate Full Flex (GCP) and Corporate Lite guest (GCPL) (except for AirAsia India)
  • Red Carpet guests Red Pass (AirAsia India only)
  • Guests on travel warrants and government bookings
  • Sky Marshals on duty Guest who has self checked-in but needs to reprint a boarding pass at the check-in counter
  • Senior citizens aged 70 and above

Just like before, the fee is also applicable to travellers that are taking AirAsia flights in Vietnam, Brunei, Laos, Taipei, Kaohsiung, India, and Honolulu. That being said, AirAsia’s check-in fee at airports outside of Malaysia differs from one another although somehow, they seemed to be lower than RM100 when converted into Ringgit.

You can conveniently avoid paying the counter check-in fee by opting to check-in using the AirAsia.com website, mobile app or airport kiosks. Although do note that the check-in through the airline’s mobile website is no longer available.
