Cool Weekend Getaway at Genting Highlands

Olla my dear merry goers!

It's going to be a long holiday weekend soon and most of my friends would be taking this opportunity to go back to their respective hometowns especially for those who celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri and also to those who need a break from their hectic lives. For those who have no where to go or are just looking to spend some time away from the city, why not head up to Genting Highlands for a cool weekend retreat?

I definitely spent a cool weekend up at Genting Highlands a few weeks ago and it was certainly a fun trip with my fellow blogger friends! Not only were we able to experience the new Tower 2 Annex which is an extension of Tower 2 plus we got to sleep in new *cross-fingers* ghost-free rooms AND we got some inside scoop to what is going to go down at Genting Highlands in the coming months! As you all know 20th Century Fox World Theme Park will be opening at Genting Highlands in 2016 and wanna know some inside scoop on what else is going to be going on? They will also be building a brand new Sky Avenue Mall where we will get new retail anddining outlets, indoor theme park and Cineplex whih are all easily accessible from the new Tower 2A. I seriously cannot wait for the new 20th Century Fox themepark to be ready because I am such a fan of 20th Century Fox movies like Rio, Ice Age, Night in the Museum, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and many more!

Here's some information about the new Tower 2A! With all the up and coming attractions I am sure there is going to be a huge crowd and the new tower was built to accommodate all these great changes that will be happening at Genting Highlands and has a total of 1,286 brand new rooms which are the XYZ Deluxe and XYZ Triple rooms. The difference between the two rooms is the XYZ Deluxe Room will comfortably accomodate 2 pax with two single beds/ one Queen sized bed while the XYZ Triple Room has one single bed and one queen sized bed to fit 3 pax. Bear in mind, the single bed is super single bed which well in my opinion if you don't mind cuddling your partner you could fit two pax as well *winks*

Life is so much easier now with the express self check-in kiosk available at the lobby area. Gone were the days where you have to queue and wait in line to check-in to your room! I still remember the last time I went up with my friends a few years back. Checking into our room took forever and by the time we managed to check in, we have already wasted so much time when in fact we could be enjoying ourselves. Now you can just use the kioks where you can check in using membership cards, MyKad or Passport for prepaid advance bookings! It is really super simple with the steps provided you can check-in within minutes! Combining Tower 1 , Tower 2 and now Tower 2 Annex, check-in is made more efficient with the E-Kiosk self check-in system. The system comes with duo language namely English and Chinese language, allows check-in within two minutes. There are 29 units of E-kiosk out of which 23 units are located at Tower 1 lobby and six units at Tower 2 Annex lobby.

It is quite a walk to the new Tower 2A but you will definitely be surprised by the interior of the walkway to the new tower. Artistic minimalist decor with mirror paneled wall where you are able to see the serene hills along the way as well totally upgrades the whole hotel feel. No more dingy gloomy hotel when you have this modern contemporary hotel. Even the elevator area is brightly lit and what you can expect from a trendy and chic three-star hotel

XYZ Deluxe Room | Tower 2A

So I was allocated to the XYZ Deluxe Room which was really quite spacious and fitted with the basic amenities like a 32" Flat Screen TV, international socket and USB Power Point, in-room safe, coffee-making facilities and open hanging cupboard plus a mini-fridge. Another feature that was different from the last time I stayed at Genting Highlands was the toilets in each room has lime green frosted glass dividers between the toilets, shower and basin. So no more having to wait for the other person to finish doing his/her business before you can use the lavatory. At the bathroom, there is separate standing shower and toilet that comes with 3-in 1 liquid soap, shower cap, sanitary bag and soap bar.

The rate for the XYZ Deluxe room varies from RM 228 to RM 461 depends on whether you come during the peak or non-peak season. For me, that day my room was priced at RM351 nett (Peaked season, weekend) I definitely had a good stay in my room with fresh linen bedsheets and clean toilets. Trust me, the last experience I had wasn't all that good and well this time I really had a comfortable stay. PLUS I did not get any uninvited guest that night! *laughs* I know many people worry about paranormal activities when staying at Genting Highlands especially with so many horror stories told over the years but well it's either they were busy that night or I was just plain lucky but I did not hear of any strange occurrence among the other bloggers too so I guess Tower 2A is ghost-free?

Ok, enough of trying to spook you all out and now let's check out some of the other rooms available at Genting First World Hotel that I am sure you would be able to find accommodate your family whether large or small.

World Club Room | Tower 1

The World Club Room located at Tower 1 is the biggest room at the First World Hotel and can accommodate large family with kids or well even a large group of friends! With the (2) two queen sized beds plus the living area, you can even accommodate up to 10 pax! Really comfortable, it seems more like a private studio apartment more than a hotel room.

World Club Room | Tower 2

The refurbished rooms in the older Tower 1 and Tower 2 also has a new uplift to provide comfort to their guests.

Superior Deluxe Room

XYZ Triple Deluxe Room

The other rooms which have been refurbished are the Superior Deluxe Room at the older towers as well as the new XYZ Triple Deluxe Room I mentioned earlier all spacious and looking very comfy.

Terminal 2 Cafe | Tower 2A

In line with growing trends, rooms are sold without breakfast as there are many options in the complex for guests to enjoy the meal of their choice. The signature Terminal 2 Café located in the lobby features freshly baked pastries, soups, snacks and beverages from 7.30am to midnight. Offering complimentary wi-fi, it is designed for those who are on the move but also have 48 seats for those wanting to dine in.

First World Cafe

You can also choose to have your breakfast at the First World Cafe which serves affordable buffet breakfast at approximately RM 20++. With a wide selection, it has mostly Western breakfast choices where I am most impressed with the different types of cereal that they serve but I do think they need to improve on the rest of their Asian breakfast items. The dim sum was not as fresh as I would expect it to be but well for a buffet breakfast below RM20 you really cannot ask for too much.

Rajawali Coffee House | Awana Genting Hotel

Of course what is a weekend getaway if you don't have good food? We were abundantly served with a Ramadhan buffet at Rajawali Coffee House which I must say I was surprised with the quality of the food. It was really good and we certainly had our fill for the night. My all-time-favourite the lamb was done just so well! For those of you who are planning for a trip up Genting Highlands, you can consider trying out the food at Rawali Coffee House.

After a good night sleep and yes I survived the night sleeping alone in my room! *yay* it was time to check out and back to hot busy KL. Checking out is also made easy with Check-out E-kiosk. There are 15 units located at Tower 1 and Tower 2 and four units at Tower 2 Annex. So now you can just drop in your cards at these check-out kiosk before you leave. Loving that I no longer have to wait in line just to check out especially if I am in a rush to my next destination. It was an amazing weekend stay especially with friends and me experiencing staying alone so thank you Resort World Genting for having me once again!
