Annyeonghaseyo!
Time for some #MiriamEats with delicious Korean BBQ. My food exploration this time took me to Ampang, where most will associate it with Little Korea Town. There are tons of Korean eateries around that area and some serving really good Korean BBQ too. I celebrated my sister's birthday at one of the little Korean BBQ joints last two years.
688 Yook Pal Pal Korean BBQ & Steamboat is located at the shoplots right opposite Ampang Point. A quaint corner lot, parking spaces seem ample during my visit. This place serves both Korean BBQ and Steamboat. Let's get down to business and check out what they have to offer.
We actually got to try their Signature Cheese Pork BBQ (RM69.90) and Cheese Topokki (RM23) which was the highlight thanks to the cheese. Pork slices were abundant and the cheese really elevates the taste and flavor of this dish. What can you not love when you have cheese in it? The outer ring has steamed egg, kimchi, pineapple and corn which will get heated up.
The cheese when melted is absolutely divine as it wraps itself around the pork. Pork meat is succulent and well marinated as well. Although it was a heavy dish, grab some fresh lettuce, green pepper and kimchi to make a ssam (lettuce wrap). I just love enjoying my Korean BBQ this way; a healthier and much filling choice.
Cheese Topokki (RM23) |
Cheese lover will like their Cheese Topokki as well. Spicy and sweet with chewy rice cakes, fish cake, cabbage and also an egg. I actually quite enjoy this version of Topokki as some places tend to cook theirs rather sweet.
Besides the two signature dishes, we ordered some meat to grill because you just cannot forget getting meat! I love how the grill actually uses charcoal because there's that smokiness that adds more flavor to the meat. This grill plate comes with cheese ring (Yes!), steamed egg, garlic and corn.
As you can see, we did order quite a lot of meats! From Pork to Beef, do take note that you have to order a minimum of 2 pax portion. Here are some of the recommended meat options to choose from:
Marinated Lamb Chop (RM35/pax) |
Marinated Octopus |
Beef Ribs |
Haemul Pancake (RM27) |
Japchae |
Just Korean BBQ sure won't fill you up so you can opt to add some side orders like Haemul Pancake (Seafood Pancake), Samgehytang (Ginseng Chicken), Japchae, etc. The Haemul Pancake was rather thick compared to other places that I eat but it is up your preference on how you like your pancakes.
Kimchi Hot Pot (RM60 for small) |
Their Kimchi Hotpot was laden with ingredients and can really fill you up. Recommended if you're coming in a large group. Well seasoned and you can really taste the flavors from the kimchi used.
Samgyetang (RM38) |
If you like Sangehytang (Ginseng Chicken), this place serves really 'power' ginseng chicken. Each sip is filled with the strong flavor and taste from the Ginseng Wine that they provide. If you do not like it to be too strong, don't pour in the whole cup. Chicken was well infused with ginseng and the glutinous rice stuffed was well done.
Overall it was a pretty satisfying meal and we left the place with a full tummy. Those of you who are looking for a new Korean BBQ joint, check out their menu and LIKE their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/yook.palpal/ for the latest offers.
Til next time,
xoxo
