U.S. Potatoes Culinary Festival 2018: Kingstreet Cafe, Seputeh KL


Hey merry goers!


The U.S Potato Culinary Festival 2018 is back! This time round with many more new restaurants and cafe taking part in the festival, I visited Kingstreet Cafe to check out what they have to offer. A rather secluded cafe in Seputeh, Kuala Lumpur, Kingstreet Cafe is located right in the same compound with a furniture shop. 


Kingstreet Cafe serves 3 different menu items for the U.S Potato Culinary Festival 2018 which are:

  • Brits Fish & Chips with U.S Fries and Oregano Herbs (RM32)
  • Seared Smoked Duck with U.S. Lattice Fries (RM21)
  • Spiced U.S Lattice Fries with Cheese and Salsa Minced Beef.



We were able to try out two of the menu items (Brits Fish & Chips with U.S Fries and Oregano Herbs/ Seared Smoked Duck with U.S. Lattice Fries). Before serving us with the main course, our tummies were warmed by their homemade soup: Pumpkin / Mushroom / French Onion which were absolutely divine. The soups were creamy and very well seasoned. You can taste the sweetness from the ingredients and also even little chunks too. I love the creaminess of the soup which showed that they were made from scratch and not those powdered soup you sometimes get. 


Moving on to the mains, we first tried the Seared Smoked Duck with U.S. Lattice Fries. Juicy smoked duck which has been nicely seared sandwiched between charcoal toast was just lovely to enjoy. The smoked duck was not too salty and paired well with the U.S Lattice Fries which adds texture to it. The U.S Lattice Fries was a delicious pairing as you enjoy it with their recommended craft beer: Two Birds Taco Craft Beer. 


We then moved on to the Brits Fish & Chips paired with U.S Fries with oregano herbs. On the side you also get some mushy peas which is a MUST HAVE for any Fish & Chips. It makes me reminisce back to the time I enjoyed freshly deep fried fish & chips on the streets of London. The fish is well battered and Kingstreet Cafe uses sea bass instead of dory which is absolutely great as the texture is firmer and the meat sweeter. 


Paired with the Fish & Chips are thick cut fries or chips like how the Brits would call them. Well seasoned with oregano, it was the best pairing to the dish. FYI, not all potatoes are the same. U.S Potatoes are the best quality potatoes as the results of the ideal growing temperature, rich soil and generations of farmers' expertise. Stringent standard for high "solids" and low sugar content were met for processing in order to create the best frozen potato products with desirable appearance, taste and texture. We paired the Brits Fish & Chips with Deschutes Mirror Pond Pale Ale as recommended.


We also managed to try their Guinness Stew Pie which was really melting pieces of beef stewed in a Guinness Stew broth. The broth is so flavorful and each piece of meat was tender and juicy. The portion was really huge and the interesting part of the pie is that they seperated the puff pastry. So no more soggy puff pastry!


Run by young and passionate owners, you can be sure to enjoy good food, coffee, tea and their wide selections of craft beers at Kingstreet Cafe. Recommended to come during the day time because the ambiance and the lighting is just perfect for brunch.
