Talam Set Do is served with the classic Nasi Minyak Pengantin surrounded by Daging Salai Lomak Berapi (smoked beef simmered in fiery coconut milk gravy with cili padi), Ayam Kunyit Palembang (lip-smacking turmeric-fried chicken) and Sotong Sambal Tumis (squid in Seniman's thick and textured house-made sambal).
Talam Set 'RE' @ RM72
Featuring nasi kukus paired with Kari Kambing Jiwa Kacau (Seniman's soul-stirring mutton curry), Ayam Masak Kicap Manis (stir-fried chicken with a sweet, slick soy sauce) and Udang Goreng Halba (deep-fried prawns with a delicious mix of herbs and spices). All these items are also available ala carte.
Talam Set 'MI' @ RM82
Lastly the "Seniman Talam Set Mi" comes with a fantastic array of dishes in it. Perfect to fill you up for 2 pax, you get Tulang Sisih Kerutup, Ayam Goreng Pak Kaduk, Ikan Siakap Berlado (whole 600gm), Nasi Minyak Pengantin, Teh Tarik Terbalik.
You won't regret savouring the juicy chuncky Australian beef rib, well braised and seasoned for eight hours with lemongrass, shallots and ginger, that delicious Ayam Goreng Pak Kaduk, and a whole 600-gram sea bass, fried to moist, flaky perfection, paired with that sambal which sure has a punch and kick to it.
If you like me are lost at what to order over the array of dishes available at Seniman, order the Gabungan 3 Rasa (RM34), a trio of Tauhu Sumbat Kejora (stuffed beancurd), Sotong Kangkong Terangkat (cuttlefish with water spinach salad) and Kerabu Daging Bakar Air Asam (beef kerabu with a dip of tamarind and coconut kerisik).
I personally love all three appetizers served in this sampler especially the Kerabu Daging Bakar Air Asam! It's so good and really brings back memories of enjoying kerabu to my heart's desire when I was studying in Kelantan years back. The beef is so tender and so generously bathed with tamarind and coconut kerisik. The Tauhu Sumbat and Sotong Kangkong, trust me when I say I nearly finished the whole sampler on my own.
Don't worry if you're dining alone as Seniman does offer individual portions as well. Other local dishes that are well elevated here at Seniman is the Mee Kari Udang Bersepai - Large tiger prawns in tangy curry sauce you would just lick the bowl clean. Not forgetting their Lontong Kering Wak Labib (Wak Labib's Compressed Rice Cakes With Coconut tumeric vegetables Gravy) which you might ask them for more sauce as their gravy was just so good.
Are you a fan of Petai aka Stinky Beans? If yes, you MUST order the Ikan Bakar Bujang Lapok/600gm (RM52) (Typical Old Bachelor Grilled Whole Seabass with Okra). The petai so strong you can smell from a mile away but don't worry if you're not because you can also request for the fish to be cooked without petai.
Another strong contender is the Seniman Pizza Bisa Bonar. Baked in an Italian-made Moretti Forni electric oven that enables pizzas to be readied fast in high temperatures, you can even see it in action from the open kitchen. Italian pizza with a local twist, try the Sambal Bilis Petai Power Pizza (RM24) Seniman's Fiery Anchovies Sambal with Bitter Bean Pizza or the Kerutup Kambing Mak Tiri which I heard was a huge hit too.
Of course, one can't end the meal without a sweet ending. Seniman innovates with our local fruits like the Chiku (RM16), a creme brûlée with ciku compote or the Apam Nangka Madu Tiga (RM14), a sweet murtabak with honey jackfruit filling. There is also the Pisang Sangai Ice Cream (RM14) which has our goreng pisang or fried banana with ice cream. The hot and cold combination was lovely. Don't miss out on the Roti Jala Sira Durian (RM16) which has the local roti jala paired with durian sauce.
But I must say the dessert that I loved was the Churros (RM16) not only with the presentation of edible flowers but this has got to be one of the better churros I have eaten. Fluffy Portugese dough gritters dosed with cinnamon sugar which had a satisfying crunch at the first bite. Pair it with their dark chocolate sauce or sticky caramel sauce and it was heavenly.
